- Jean consistently spoke against and voted against amending the constitution to limit marriage to one man and one woman. She made campaigning against the proposed constitutional amendment part of her campaign for re-election in the last election.
- Jean supported the Human Rights Act of 1994, which prohibited discrimination by sexual orientation in housing, employment, and other areas.
- She was the only member of the House to speak on the floor in support of Representative Karen Clark and Representative Scott Dibble when they protested the Republican House decision to refuse to grant partner benefits to House employees.
