Back to School
In 1979 Jean began attending William Mitchell at night and got her law degree in 1983. She was one of the first eight law clerks at the then brand new Court of Appeals. When her clerkship was over, she was hired as a staff attorney for the court.
In 1985, a group of neighbors in south Minneapolis asked her to run for an open seat in the Minnesota House. You can read about her record as a legislator in "The issues".
Jean’s husband, Dwight is Community Minister at Mayflower UCC Church and chairs the Board of Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light which is working to stem global warming while promoting environmental justice. Peter was Minneapolis Mayor Hodges’s Policy Director. His wife Mandy works for the Bush Foundation. Their new daughter Penny joins sister, Tallulah. Stuart, his wife Gretel, and their children, Per and Hattie, live in Highland Park, Illinois. Stuart is a Conservation ecologist at the Chicago Botanic Gardner where he heads the Echinacea Project. His is also an adjunct professor at Northwestern University. Gretel works with the Echinacea Project and The Nature Conservancy.
Jean and Dwight still spend some of their free time at their farm but now Stuart and Gretel use the fields for experimental plots for their studies of native prairies. Check out echinaceaproject.org. Jean and Dwight have happily become laborers in this endeavor.
